Throwback Thursday: First Black Cod Harvest

Perciformes’ first harvest of black cod (sablefish) was a huge success during the R&D phase. Now, we are shifting our focus to our commercial grow out facility which will produce 220,000 pounds of sablefish per year!

Native to the chilly waters of the northeast Pacific, sablefish (known by west coast anglers and diners as black cod and seafood gourmets around the world as butterfish) are in high consumer demand for their rich buttery flesh and super high nutrient content. Perciformes Group’s cadre of marine scientists set out to prove land-based recirculating aquaculture can make the highly desirable but elusive fish available to the world market without plundering the seas by trawler or polluting via net pens. And, they did it in record time at minimal cost.
